Akanksha Samiti, a voluntary registered non-government organization, is the development arm of the Indian Administrative Officers’ Wives Association of Uttar Pradesh. The organization, established in 1987 by Ms. Shyamala Kalyan Krishan, the wife of the then Chief Secretary of UP, focuses on empowerment of women and girls, particularly those who are underserved and marginalized.
Our Objectives
To facilitate capacity development and empowerment of under-served and marginalized women and children through access to information, training and services related to education, health, employment and income generation.
To increase information, access and utilization of government development schemes by the intended beneficiaries, particularly in remote/rural areas.
Our Area of Operation
Akanksha Uttar Pradesh Headquarters are at Butler Palace, Jopling Road Lucknow. Divisional and District operations are envisaged in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh as per Akanksha's goal and objectives by the Divisional and District Akanksha presidents and teams.

Our Coordinators: Akanksha members serve as coordinators of various project committees such as (1) Masala Mathri Kendra, (2) School, (3) Computer Training, (4) Handicrafts, (5) District Village Initiative, (6) Womens' Homes , (7) Data & Communication on Status of Women/Girls (8) Resource Mobilization, others.

Our Membership
Membership is open to all individuals who are interested in contributing to the social development of women and children in Uttar Pradesh. IAS officers’ wives contribute through volunteering their time and talents to the organization, which is sometimes besides their regular full-time jobs. The participation of civil society members is another strength of Akanksha, bringing in a strong community perspective and ensuring relevant and robust initiatives.
Our Past Presidents
Since its establishment in 1987, the wives of Chief Secretary's of UP have served as Presidents of Akanksha/IASOWA providing leadership to the organisation.
