Akanksha Samiti, a voluntary registered non-government organization, is the development arm of the Indian Administrative Officers’ Wives Association of Uttar Pradesh. The Society established in 1987 by Ms. Shyamala Kalyan Krishan, the wife of the then Chief Secretary of UP, focuses on empowerment of women and girls, particularly those who are underserved and marginalized.

Initiatives
Akanksha supports initiatives in various spheres which range from establishing and managing a women's income generation programme such as the Masala Mathri Kendra to provision of training in computers as well as a school for education of poor and marginalized children. Support is also provided to blood donation camps , health services and to homes for mentally challenged women.
Resources
Akanksha has developed several resources such as guidelines and protocols for its operational activities including for establishing district level societies and promoting government schemes, particularly for women and children. Akanksha will also provide financial resources to district Akanksha societies for village level projects.

Message on International Women's Day 8 March 2014.



On 15 February 2014, IAS Officers' Wives Association of UP during the IAS Week Celebrations hosted the IASOWA-Akanksha meet at the Chief Secretary's residence Lucknow. Ms Dimple Yadav, Hon. Member of Parliament, Kannauj was the Chief Guest at the meet and presented certifcates of appreciation to IASOWA-Akanksha members for contributions to Akanksha's mandate of empowering women and girls in 2013. Brochures of two Akanksha projects on Handicrafts and Computer Training were also released on that day. Presentations by Akanksha district/ divisional presidents on their work in the field were the highlights of the meet.
